The first appointment is an initial consultation where we go through everything you would like help with. I also explain all about hypnotherapy and how we can treat the issue, as well as explaining how the brain works. During hypnosis it’s possible to access the subconscious mind, so that changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviours can be achieved at a deeper than conscious level.
A unique feature of solution focused hypnotherapy is that sessions do not require lengthy analysis of the past or any attempt to dig up the root cause of the problem or issue. Instead treatment is focused on your own best hopes, so during the initial consultation I ask each client what they’d like to achieve or change with the help of hypnotherapy. At the end of the consultation we also agree a treatment plan – for quitting smoking that may be as little as one subsequent session, fears and phobias 4 sessions, or for more complex or long standing issues 6-12 sessions are a typical average. Clients are also given access to an exclusive hypnosis relaxation track to take away and start using at home on a nightly basis. The relaxation track helps the treatment process by reinforcing the work we do in all the sessions and also by helping the client to reduce stress and anxiety.
During treatment sessions we use hypnosis which is a state of focused relaxation. I always explain how this is in fact a relaxed state everyone typically experiences several times a day – a long way from any mind-bending tricks or swinging pocket watches! Think of times when you may have been absorbed in a good book or watching a film, playing a favourite game or being out for a walk or driving a familiar route. In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy sessions we are utilising this state of relaxed focus to allow the deeper subconscious mind to focus on positive change, thereby encouraging progress toward the client’s own hopes and goals. The brain has a remarkable ability to form new neurological pathways, assisting the client in reshaping thoughts, feelings and behaviour towards their own preferred outcomes.
